Club Statement: Management Update

River City Futsal Club shares the following open letter from Club Co-founder, Mitch Sciacca.

To all club members, supporters and the futsal community,

At the end of August 2026, I will step down from my role as General Manager of River City Futsal Club.

For the last six years, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the top coaches and players within our country, building one of the stronger full-funnel programs in Australia.

In this time, it feels like we have achieved it all. Together we have built a globally recognised brand, orchestrating player transfers to the NZF Futsal SuperLeague and The FA Futsal National League in the United Kingdom, taken a team of 100% homegrown U19 academy players to the 2023 Montesilvano Futsal Cup in Italy. Matching up against top clubs such as Inter Movistar (Spain), History Roma (Italy) and Sporting Clube Marconi (Italy). We have also been able to engineer relationships with clubs around the world, sending five of our coaches to Malaysia to sit the AFC Level 1 in Miri. These activities have helped us secure partnerships with Buceros FC (Malaysia), Sporting Club Marconi (Italy), Waikato Rapids (New Zealand) and Colorado Rapids (USA). 

Locally we have achieved so much on and off the court. Off the court we have been able to invest in infrastructure, building a club gym space for senior players at Dittmer Park, in partnership with Mt Gravatt Hawks. We have had a range of regional engagement within Queensland, taking a Men’s team to Cairns for training camp in 2024 to weekend trips to Kingaroy earlier in 2026. We have also been able to build a sustainable organisation, hitting our sixth birthday in July 2026 with programs from U6 through to Senior Men and Women, along with launching a Powerchair Football Program at the start of the year.

On the court we have been exceeded our success metrics, adding our clubs name to over 20 honours from U11 Academy League through to the Men’s Queensland Futsal Cup in 2024, the 2025 F-League Men’s Premiership along with five consecutive Gold Coast Internationals in the U16 Boys category.

Ultimately this isn’t a decision I have taken lightly and has taken a lot of consideration both from myself and a range of stakeholders within our organisation. I will be relocating to London in September to progress my professional Marketing career, taking on a Partnership Marketing Manager role within Flight Centre Travel Group.

Despite being on the other side of the world, I still want to be involved within this club we have built. I will be stepping into the role of Chairman and act as an advisor to the program directors we have within the club. For the next six month, I will still be involved in the day-to-day administration of the club but that will change once a new administrator is appointed and onboarded.

It has been a wild ride the last six years, some tough times but I have loved every minute creating and leading this club. If I had the chance, I would do it all again. 

Although I may be 16,000 Kilometres away, I will still be one of the top fans of the club cheering players, coaches and our teams on to achieve the outcomes they want to achieve. It is not goodbye but more so, see you later!
