Our F-League men have started the second half of the season in winning ways after defeating last seasons runners up at Foxwell on Sunday afternoon.
We travelled to Foxwell on Sunday afternoon to restart the league after a three week break and we somewhat picked up where we left off adding another three points to our season tally. Still missing Jay Broughton from the match day squad it was an Orlando Lopez hat-trick which sealed the win.
We were 1-0 up within seconds after a set piece from kick off breached the defensive line and saw Joubert finish calmly at the back post. With plenty of possession going forward but lacking on the final crucial pass we let Crusaders back into the game as they found the equaliser minutes later through a goal line scrap. It took only five minutes for Lopez to get his first of the afternoon after a well worked transition led to him finishing around the advancing keeper. For the remainder of the half we comfortably defending in a mid to low block and allowed Crusaders high possession in the mid court. The transition allowed us to create chances but on target was few and far between. We entered halftime 2-1 up with the game in the balance as both team traded good possessions and chances.
The second half started with Crusaders being awarded a penalty which was slotted home leaving the game at 2-2 with still 18 minutes to play. Straight off kick off we were ahead again after another well worked possession from kick off led to Bowman finding the back of the net. A minute later, Lopez took his game tally to 2 goals after a transition down the right hand flank saw him finish across goal into the side netting giving us a 4-2 lead.
Crusaders went into 5th man and we sat back in defensive shape until Lopez completed his hat-trick after a quick set of passes set him free on goal and saw him take the chance clinically. A minute later, Crusaders drew one back while in power play possession only to be cancelled out by a Jaylen Vaughan header over the 5th man goal keeper give us a three goal lead with 4 minutes to play. The home team managed to grab one back but the clock expired with the deficit still 2 goals in our favour.
It secured our first time taking maximum points off a strong Crusaders team across both head to head matches during the season and set us up for a strong second half of the season.
