REVIEW: 2025 F-League Rd 2

Our F-League Men have made it 2 from 2 to start the season after a convincing win against Crusaders at the Velodrome on Sunday morning.

It was a game that never really found second gear which saw River City control the tempo and maintain a high possession count from start to finish.

Kern Platts-Mills opened his account in RCF colours in the 6th minute after a well worked possession from goalkeeper release to back post tap in saw the home side go 1-0 up.

We doubled our advantage not long after following a beautifully finished possession by Orlando Lopez, which was then followed by goals from both Ryan Jones and Ky Bowman saw us leading 4-1 at the halftime break.

The second half saw much of the same and after 24 seconds, we added another through Jay Broughton. He added his 4th goal in 2 games after a mix up inside the Crusaders D saw us take a 6-1 lead with still 15 minutes to play.

A minute later, Harley Brown found the back of the net with a well worked set piece at the back post.

River City started to change combinations and empty the bench handing debuts to both Hayden Ibrahim and Todd Broadhurst.

With 10 to go, Isiah Quinn assisted Ryan Jones to make it 8-1. Credit to Crusaders they didn’t give up and found the net 3 more times through a mix of classy finishes and scrambles on long ball possessions.

The game was finished the same way it started with another Kern Platts-Mills goal which ended the game 9-4.

Later in the day, our women’s team faced one of the most successful sides in Australian Futsal, in Crusaders. Although a strong first half, we went into the break 0-0. Our efforts went unrewarded in the second half conceding within minutes. Trying to chase the game, we eventually fell to their sword, being defeated 5-0.
