REVIEW: 2025 QLD CUP ROUND OF 16

It was a mixed bag of results in the first allocated cup weekend of the 2025 season. Read below to see how all 3 senior teams went.

Women's First Team

The women flipped their fixture as part of a regional futsal activation which saw them play away to Bayside Strikers based in Hervey Bay. It was the first regional trip for our womens team which saw them progress on the back of a strong performance.

From start to finish, we dominated possession in a game that saw Ashlee Parravicini find the back of the net 13 times and all court players being credited with at least one goal. The trip doubled as an activation ahead of the 2025 summer futsal season in Wide Bay and is the start of future collaboration for the club in the central QLD region.

We will now play Crusaders in the quarter finals of the cup.

Men's - River City 2

Our second division side travelled to Nambour to face Sunshine Coast Wave in the Round of 16. After three strong preliminary performances we now found ourselves facing a strong F-League side. In a game that was marred with some questionable officiating including, incorrect timeout protocols we did well to create a game out of it.

Teams exchanged goals as RCF2 found the equaliser while playing down a man after a red card. With the game at 2-2, Wave found the winner with a clinical transition to the back post. We went into powerplay situation and created chances but with 30 seconds to go, the game was ended on the back of a Wave time out which saw us knocked out after a gusty performance against a strong F-League side.

The teams attention will now shift towards the start of FQ Futsal Premier League, due to start in early October.

Mens First Team

Our first team started their cup defence against familiar opposition in Elitefoot, who we defeated in the final to win the 2024 FQ Futsal Cup.

Our opener was scored by U16 player, Roman Cvjeticanin, the lead was then doubled with a great individual goal by Orlando Lopez. We then found the back of the net a third time and just as we were heading into half time 3-0, we conceded a sloppy goal to head into halftime 3-1 up.

The second half saw Ky Bowman on the back of an attacking move rattle the crossbar from 10 metres out, off the rebound Elitefoot transitioned and the score was 3-2 in the matter of seconds. Elitefoot found a 3rd and got in control of the game.

We regained our lead following a Joshua Buxton chip over the grounded keeper and another goal from Ky Bowman gave us enough of a buffer to hold out Elitefoot in the dying stages with the score finishing 5-4.

A strong response from Elitefoot who showed their class, pushing us to the final possessions. We will now face Ipswich Futsal for a spot in the semi finals.

Our teams now switch focus into the league where they will face Elitefoot next Sunday at the Velodrome in Round 7 of the F-League.
