River City Community Collaboration

May saw the start of the community collaboration between River City Futsal Club and Hawks FC.

Hawks FC players were welcomed to our training facility to experience futsal in a series of free come and try sessions. In these sessions, which were run by our Head of Junior Development, Renan Fenerich. The players were introduced to the core skills used in futsal. The sessions provided players with exposure to fundamental skills and game play situations. This has proved successful as a way of introducing football players to futsal in the development phase.

The second initiative as part of the collaboration looks at introducing futsal specific principles and skills in an outdoor football scenario. River City coaches have taken over the Monday Night skills program at Hawks designed for U8 – 11 players. These sessions see a 45 minute opportunity for players to master one skill each week. These sessions are delivered using the same training methodology that River City currently follows as part of the High Performance Program. This has proved beneficial as resources such as session plans, coaching curriculums and expertise in selected areas is now available to Hawks FC coaches and players.

The introduction of futsal skills to the football scenario is a new concept and one that River City is proud to be hosting as part of the community collaboration with Hawks FC. More futsal opportunities are to come in the next 3 weeks.
