RCF WRAPPED: 2022/23

As the 2022/23 season draws to a close we take the time to reflect on which was another massive season of growth for the club.

With a strong foundation built in our opening two seasons, season 2023 took the club to new heights. Across our 10 High Performance teams (including three female only teams) we had over 148 players. In addition to this we had 37 development players and 12 coaching and admin staff.

We played over 200 games as a club across the 2022 F-League Season which ran from August to December, the 2022 FQ State Titles hosted in October, the 2022 SEQ Premier League Season from October to December and the 2023 Gold Coast International hosted in January.

With an increased membership base, we still continued to maintain success within the club's program. For the second year running we picked up the winners medal in the U16 Division at the Gold Coast International. Our Youth program continued to be one of the strong in the country with a silver medal in each of the major tournaments in 2022/23 season. This includes the 2022 FQ State Titles were both teams faced each other in the semi-final with the game going to extra-time. Our success on the court was culminated with a top four finish on the FQ Futsal Rankings with RCF finishing as the top club in Brisbane.

Our U16 Boys with their winners medals at the 2023 Gold Coast International.

The club also successfully ran our first trip outside of the SEQ area. A group of our Youth Men and Senior Men under the age of 21 went to Melbourne for the 2023 Futsal Oz Junior Nationals. As the only Queensland club attending we flew the flag high with a semi-final performance unfortunately going down to eventual winners Fitzroy FC,

It wasn't just our teams with success on the court, our players also reached new heights with our first players earning selection into representative teams. Within the FQ State Program, we had six players earn selection into the squads;

  • Mitch Smith (U12B)

  • Myah Smallshaw (U13G)

  • Fernanda McLaren (U13G)

  • Lachlan Hatzioannou (U16B)

  • Toby Smith (Youth Men)

  • Sachin Prasad (Youth Men)

Our player achievements didn't finish there, First Team Women's players, Hayley Shield travelled to Columbia in October, representing Australia at the 2022 AMF Women's Futsal World Cup. We also had seven players join the trialling squad for the 2022 AMF U17 World Cup. Sachin Prasad, Chad Pugin, Daniel Monteiro, Ned Naouri, Evan Khu, Braydon Smith and Lachlan Hatzioannou trained with the squad but unfortunately the squad did. not progress after the World Cup was cancelled.

We continued our commitment to young player development with an average age of our Women's F-League squad 19 Years and 311 Days. Our Men's squad averaged an age of 20 Years and 214 Days. We also debuted six out aged men in the 2022 season.

As we enter 2023/24 as Brisbane's Number 1 Futsal Club, we thank all of our players, coaches, staff and member for their support and efforts in the 2022/23 Season. We have a big 2023 to come.
