REVIEW: 2025 F-League Rd10

Our F-League men add another win to their season record after defeating an understrength Gold Coast Galaxy on Saturday evening at Carrara Indoor Stadium.

We were back down the Gold Coast for Round 10 of the F-League as we faced last years champions, Gold Coast Galaxy. It was a repeat of last weeks fixture, as we saw another Orlando Lopez hat-trick, taking him to 11 for the season.

We started the game with some free flowing possessions and created chances but failing to execute with the final pass. Galaxy found their feet in the early minutes, creating some possession in our defensive half. It took eight minutes of back and forth futsal for us to break the deadlock with a well worked possession, ending with Lopez at the back post blasting it home.

From there, we found our groove in the game and Lopez doubled our advantage in the 17th minute directly from the corner as it somehow made its way through the legs of the Galaxy goalkeeper. Just before halftime, our lead was taken to 3-0 as Bowman shaped for a left foot shot, ball rolled beyond the defender and found a gap between the Galaxy goalkeepers legs to add to his season tally and maintain the golden boot spot.

It took just four minutes of the second half for us to the find our fourth goal of the evening. A defensive zone kick in led to a back post 1v1 for Bowman after three line cutting passes, giving him his brace and our lead getting to 4-0. Minutes later, Galaxy pulled one back after a defensive scrap ended with the Galaxy player finishing on the volley into the roof of the net.

This gave the game some life as both teams were seeking the next goal. Galaxy took control of the game for a number of minutes but just couldn’t find the goal they needed to pile the pressure on even further. In the 34th minute, Aparicio made a great double save, then threw the ball to Bowman on the right flank who found Lopez on the run on the far side, which was finished into the top corner and all but killing the energy of the game.

We managed to find a sixth goal, as Vaughan breached the Galaxy defence with a 1-2 inside with Joubert and then went on to finish it calmly against the Galaxy goalkeeper. It wasn’t over as Galaxy manage to score twice late on but all hope was lost as the time remaining was too little, too late for the home side.
