REVIEW: 2025 F-League Rd11

Our F-League men dominated from the first whistle to the last whistle on Sunday morning as they beat South Brisbane Fury for our 6th straight win.

Back at the Velodrome for our Round 11 fixture, we found our stride which saw another Orlando Lopez hattrick and Ky Bowman extending his lead in the race for the Golden Boot with another three goals.

It was business as usual for us on Sunday as we maintained our attacking focus and from the opening possessions showed that we were ready to score goals. It took Orlando Lopez just seven minutes to reignite his goal scoring purple patch as he finished at the back post on the back of a well created chance by Vaughan.

Five minutes later, Bowman added to his season tally as Platts-Mills dispossessed the Fury attacker, maintained possession and a 1-2 between Buxton and Bowman on the right hand flank, created space for him to finish on his preferred left foot. A minute later, Brown scored his third of the season as he beat the first defender and as the keeper approached him calmly ball rolled around the keeper finishing into an empty net. The three goal lead wasn’t enough as 17 year old James Black on debut received a pinpoint cross court pass from Bowman to finish on a tight angle.

In the 19th minute, another young player in Roman Cvjeticanin disposed the Fury pivot on halfway, rounded the keeper and finished into an empty net. We weren’t done there as Lopez and Cvjeticanin combined to then find Bowman unmarked at the back post taking us to halftime with a 6-0 lead.

The second half was groundhog day as it took 7 minutes again for Lopez to opening the scoring. This time, Fury activated the numerical advantage, Bowman won the ball, Lopez on the right flank transitioned and just like the QLD Futsal Cup final last year, made no mistake on the tight angle. Six minutes later Bowman finished a full court goal after an interception and an unguarded goal.

Buxton then added to the scoreline from halfway this time in a transition. Lopez got his 4th hattrick in as many games after Bowman assisted him uncontested on the back post. The morning was finished was a Cvjeticanin turn and finish giving us an 11-0 win.

While the attacking display was flawless the main take away was the invaluable clean sheet as both keepers did their role in making sure defensively we had a solid performance. We now ride the 6 game win streak ahead of a winner takes all match up against Sunshine Coast Wave at Ripley for Magic Round in the F-League.

Our women’s team have taken all three points away from Fury in a game that saw us come from behind in a tense final five minutes. We took the lead in the 5th minute through Nikki Dawes and were unlucky not to double the lead with a few well worked possessions. Fury scored twice before halftime to lead 2-1 at the break.

They added to the lead in the 25th minute and we seemed to be heading to another defeat.

But in the 36th minute Shubreet Sran gave life to our fight back and a minute later, Eva Heron squared the game up 3-3. In what can only be described as three minutes of chaos, Shubreet Sran sent us ahead with another goal making it 4-3. Fury threw everything at us but couldn’t find the equaliser, with us taking all 3 points.
