REVIEW: 2025 F-League Rd8

Our F-League men have escaped an early scare to disassemble Sala Time with us scoring 15 goals in a statement victory on Saturday morning at the Velodrome.

After back to back away trips down the Gold Coast, we finally returned home to the Velodrome to face Sala Time in a Round 8 catch up fixture. Orlando Lopez was again the main talking point this time netting 6, which gives him 12 in the last 3 matches and 3 consecutive hattricks.

It wasn’t the start we expected and Sala Time starting with a higher defensive line capitalised on our slow start, within 90 seconds led the game 2-0. We didn’t panic or show any signs of instability, maintaining the game plan and focussing on building possessions from the back of the court. Sala Time held strong, with their goalkeeper making two crucial saves to prevent us from scoring.

But in the 11th minute, their defensive goal was breached and the domination began. Jaylen Vaughan got us started, receiving a pinpoint through ball from Bowman and finishing into the far corner. A minute later, the game was level after Orlando Lopez was too quick off the mark and lost the defender to finish across the keepers body. Isiah Quinn then got into the action after his shot was deflected and found the back of the net giving us the lead. Just before the halftime whistle sounded, Lopez created space on the right flank, played an internal 1-2 and carried the ball 10 metres before finishing on a tight angle, taking us into half time with a 4-2 lead and plenty of momentum.

If the first half was a story of two sides, the second half was not quite the same. In what can only be described as one team forgetting to come back out at half time, we piled on the goals in a clinical yet somewhat reserved display. Within 90 seconds of the second half starting, the lead was 6-2 with both Bowman and Vaughan scoring goals on the back of long passing possessions.

That set the tone for the second half. Between the 26th minute and the 30th minute we scored five goals and took all energy, possession and desire away from the opposition. Lopez had four goals to his name, Vaughan added a second, Joubert and Brown got into the act and we were cruising. Sala Time pulled one back in the 35th minute which only sparked further damage to their goal difference. We ended up adding another four to the scoreboard seeing Platts-Mills get on the scoresheet, Lopez get his 5th and 6th goals as well as Bowman adding another to his name.

It was a dominant display of futsal from the 2nd minute mark onwards where we played numerous double digit pass possessions and created an endless stream of goal scoring opportunities.
