River City Futsal Club is thrilled to announce the launch of our newest program, River City Powerchair FC.
The River City Powerchair Football team officially joined the club under this new naming convention earlier this year. Previously known as Lions PFC, the team was formed in late 2018 as part of the Queensland Powerchair Football Association’s expansion of the competition.
As a club, we were approached in early 2026 regarding a bold new partnership. The opportunity to unite under a new identity and fresh look was quickly embraced, and the transition to River City has been an exciting and energising step for the team.
This initiative represents a significant milestone in River City Futsal Club’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, ensuring players of all abilities have access to meaningful and competitive football pathways.
Powerchair Football is a fast-paced, highly skilled sport that empowers athletes using power wheelchairs to compete through strategy, teamwork, and technical ability.
River City Powerchair FC has been accepted into the Queensland Powerchair Football Association (QPFA) competition and will line up alongside established clubs such as Brisbane Strikers and Moreton City Excelsior in what promises to be a highly competitive season. The team will kick off its 2026 campaign this Saturday, 7 February, with fixtures taking place at Nissan Arena.
The 2026 squad features an impressive mix of talent, including members of the Poweroos (Australian National Team), Queensland State representatives, and Freddy, the programs youngest player, who will be making his debut this season.
Looking ahead, River City Powerchair FC will attend the APFA National Championships in April, hosted in Sydney. This premier event brings together the strongest Powerchair Football programs in Australia, including teams affiliated with A-League clubs such as Sydney FC, Melbourne City FC, Western Sydney Wanderers, and Newcastle Jets.
On the announcement, Club General Manager Mitch Sciacca said, “It’s awesome that we have the opportunity to work with and support this team. I’m really looking forward to how we can use our club platform to help grow the team and support Powerchair Football as a whole.”
We look forward to supporting River City Powerchair FC as they begin this historic journey with the club. Stay tuned throughout 2026 for match reports and further announcements.
